Everyone has a gimmick; be it an inspiration, a dream, a conceptual…for whatever form of self-expression they like to share with others. For most general things, I like to keep it relatively simple. But for photography and writing, etc. as a whole, I am always looking to challenge myself. So I created a creative conceptual, entitled
Changing L.A.N.E.S. which is an abbreviation for
Changing…Like A Neverending Story. These next few paragraphs are for those of you who have just stopped by for the first time and are new to me as a writer, a photographer, and an artist of any sort.
But I’ll try to keep it brief.
To better understand the primary idealism of this phrase—first, it’s not about, or meant to be associated with any film of
similar name, recent or past—although I am absolutely a fan of the
1984 classic most of us know and love. So please; any pre-formulated ideas that it’s a fantasy-book or film rip-off? Well…I don’t know how you arrived here, or if it had anything to do with my catch phrase, but wipe that conclusion from your collective thought process. As interesting as they each [respectively] may be, my conceptual has nothing to do with Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson, Atreyu, Bastian, the Childlike Empress or big, furry, white luck dragons.
However, that’s not to say you all together missed the mark, creatively speaking. If you’re a photographer, an artist of some sort, or a blogger just looking for interesting images and inspiration, just…think of it like this: Let’s consider, for the moment (or at least, hope), that artistic minds out there generally like to create with similar ideals in mind. We’ll also just go ahead and presume that you are one of these [said] minds, or you probably wouldn’t have ended up on this page to begin with. So, that said, be literal—think about
Changing L.A.N.E.S.; once more, and with feeling.
Changing. Like. A. Neverending. Story. A reality inherent, within those of us that have such beautiful minds—if not simply for that very open-ended and boundless aptitude that we DO, in fact, have for fantasy; in which we spontaneously change lanes of existence—pulling ourselves into another place, another time. Or both. In order to escape—well…ourselves, no doubt.
The reason; my reason anyway, for the existence of Changing L.A.N.E.S. is…OUR existence. It’s a truth, depending on how you approach it—often a fiction, but one that ideally represents…you…me, and the inspirations by which we learn. The dreams which we dare aspire to. Perhaps, on a more unadulterated note, it’s often the pain and pleasure of our experiences—either sudden, or enduring…that causes existential changes to us; where in we are sometimes smoothly, but often forcefully re-directed into another lane of life. And maybe, these things symbolize more non-fiction for some, than they would like to admit.
So, Changing L.A.N.E.S., on my admission, is just a creative idea. But one, I think, with strong merit. It’s all about life. Our lives. With intent to capture it. It’s moments, and all of it’s inherent beauty—as simple and as complicated as all that may be, or may become, throughout it. How it [life] happens as we write it, draw it, photograph it, compose it. And destroy it. How we are constantly changing it’s shape and form. And it, us.
I hope this has helped you, to understand me better. Changing L.A.N.E.S. is the conceptual I use to keep myself grounded, inspired, and further aspiring to a higher state of creative mind. And, as you continue to view my work; IF you continue to view my work, I can only hope that you will likewise, see these words persevere within me.
Thanks for reading.
